中共強推「港版國安法」，港人已清楚見到言論和新聞自由將被閹割，「一國兩制」和「高度自治」變得蕩然無存。面對未來困境，《蘋果》的路只會更崎嶇，除要面對被政治打壓、廣告商封殺，就連報道真相也隨時被視為危害國家安全行為。然而，為了港人未來，以及捍衞碩果僅存的人權、自由等普世價值，《蘋果》更加要堅守下去。而一向關心香港命運的前港督彭定康，日前也拍片撐新聞自由，呼籲港人齊心對抗極權。

彭定康認為，香港之所以成功，成為全亞洲首屈一指的城市，全因過去香港擁有「自由」，令市民可以安居樂業。而「新聞自由」更是整個自由體系的重要部份，因它能讓我們看清事實真相，讓我們掌握資訊，知道世界正在發生甚麼事。這也是穩定經濟繁榮不可或缺的。他又指要幫助這些代表自由，但被中共打壓的媒體，能夠做到的便是以行動支持。彭定康又指常言道：「每日一蘋果」，認為在廣泛層面上也是對的。

"One of the reasons why Hong Kong is being such a fantastic city, a great Asian city, hugely successful, hugely stable, and giving a safe haven to so many people who fled from some of the worst events in modern Chinese Communist history. One of the reasons it's been so successful, is because of freedom. And it’s freedom which is under threat from Chinese Communist in Beijing now. It’s freedom which gives people such a wonderful life. It’s freedom which people would promise to want to hold on to. And it’s freedom which underpins the success of the economy.

So why is it important to cherish it, and particularly, to cherish freedom of the press, which is part of the whole package of the liberty？It’s important because you should know what’s happening in your life. You should know what people are really doing, what they're really up to. You should be able to know what is the objective truth about your own society, and about the world. And it’s very important if you are in business, and to have free access to information about what’s going on in the world.

So when people recently have been talking about some businesses pulling out of Hong Kong, if they lose freedom to know what’s going on, that’s understandable. And what can you do about it? Well, you can, of course, make clear the importance of freedom and free access to information. Free ability to say what you think and to learn what you want to learn. But to do that with free media under so much pressure, I guess you can help in one way, a very practical way. And that’s by buying, purchasing the newspapers and the websites, which still represent freedom and try to tell you honestly what’s going on. You can do it by making sure that you got a subscription to the ones that do that, and there are fewer and fewer at last. You can do it by crowdfunding.

And remembering always, the justice for your health. People say that an apple a day and it’s good for you. And so I guess it’s true in a broader sense as well.

Please support the free press, the free media, which help to make Hong Kong such a wonderful city. And I hope we'll continue to do so. Whatever the challenges represented by Chinese Communism against all the promises they made in the Treaty over the next months or years."
