Letter to Jimmy Lai | Protecting the sparks of Hong Kong’s future

蘋果日報 2020/12/13 09:36

As I write this letter, I know that you have been additionally charged with violating the national security law. Although it has already been a few days, I still can’t help but cry when I read about your report. If my father were still alive, he would be about the same age as you, so perhaps I am projecting my emotions. I often wonder how my father would feel about today’s chaos if he were still alive, but fortunately, he didn’t have to be traumatized by them.
As you said, we still have to move forward in troubled times. In the face of the constant impact, I can’t help but reflect on how to find my place and what role I can play in this chaotic world. Until I watched Tat Ming Pair’s concert earlier, my face was covered with tears when Anthony Wong sang “Guilty of reminiscences” and the screen showed images of the tank. I recalled when I woke up one morning at the age of nine, my father told me that many people had died on the other side of the world while I was asleep. Recently, I also began to explain to my eight-year-old daughter what is happening in Hong Kong. As a parent, the least I can do is let my children understand the facts and history. Every child is a spark for the future of Hong Kong people. Protecting the spark is the best I can do in my role as a mother.
Please take care of your health. Hong Kong people will keep going with you on this long and arduous journey. Add oil!
