Unpredictable and ever-changing core decision | Lui Yue

With tens of thousands of people in the state of Georgia chanting, “fighting for Trump!” Trump’s camp filed an election fraud lawsuit in the Milwaukee Circuit Court of Wisconsin. On Dec. 7, close to midnight, Texas Attorney General has simultaneously sued Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia to the Supreme Court for violating election law, with many states seconded. Trump’s battle through the legal process is onto the last stage. Whether he would win or sweat is yet to find out.
Since Xi Jinping sent a message to congratulate Biden, the Chinese diplomats and media all call Biden “President-elect,” and the CCP has become more uninhibited in suppressing democratic power within the mainland and Hong Kong. The truth behind the Sun Dawu case is due to the long term financial support to civil movement promoters such as Xu Zhiyong and Ding Jiaxi. Xu was a member of the legal team defending Sun’s illegal fundraising case in 2003. In December 2019, Xu called for a gathering in Xiamen with just over 20 people. On Dec. 26, many participants of this gathering were suddenly arrested cross-province by Shandong police. Afterward, there was a large-scale detainment and summoning of lawyers and civilians nationwide, which has been called the “1226 Civilian Case.” Xu published an open letter in February this year while he was on the run, heavily criticizing Xi Jinping’s incompetence in dealing with the Wuhan virus pandemic and Hong Kong anti-ELAB movement. He bluntly said, “Mr. Xi, please step down.” Xu was arrested on Feb. 15, and his girlfriend Li Qiaochu was later also taken away. Another entrepreneur Wang Gongquan has been restricted from leaving China for a year because of the same reason.
Carrie Lam in Hong Kong performed heavy retaliation according to Hong Kong national security law: Joshua Wong, Agnes Chow, and Ivan Lam from Demosisto received prison terms; Jimmy Lai was sent to jail before the case being heard. It led to the announcement from the U.S. Department of State on Dec. 7 of the sanctioning on 14 vice-chairpersons of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC), which controls the CCP. After the House of Representatives unanimously passed the “Hong Kong People’s Freedom and Choice Act,” Lam administration continued to arrest numerous students and democratic party leaders and became the driving force behind the frenzied violation of Hong Kong’s human rights and the collapse of China-U.S. relations.
John Ratcliffe, Senior U.S. Intelligence Officer, published an article in the Wall Street Journal on Dec. 3 which stated, “China poses the greatest threat to America today and the greatest threat to democracy and freedom worldwide since World War II.” He said, “China robs U.S. companies of their intellectual property, replicates the technology, and then replaces the U.S. firms in the global marketplace...China also steals sensitive U.S. defense technology to fuel President Xi Jinping’s aggressive plan to make China the world’s foremost military power.”
On the next day, leaders of both parties of the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence made a joint statement to back up Ratcliffe. Senator Rubio and Senator Warner said in the statement, “our intelligence is clear: the Chinese Communist Party will stop at nothing to exert its global dominance.” “The Chinese Communist Party’s authoritarian leaders seek to threaten our free speech, politics, technology, economy, military, and even our drive to counter the COVID-19 pandemic.” The pandemic has done serious harm to the lives of Americans. Even its impact on the U.S. economy and election cannot be compared.
What shocked everyone was the recent video from the CCP senior think tank Di Dongsheng. Facing millions of audiences in the network, Di said without a qualm, “Wall Street can’t control Trump,” “but now we see Biden is elected. Has Biden’s son (Hunter) any global foundation? Do you know who helped Hunter in setting up his foundations? Got it? There are a lot of deals inside all these.” This is like giving Trump a bombshell. Someone on Twitter has given him an extremely positive review, “the whistle-blower who bravely save the U.S. and the modern civilization – Di Dongsheng.”
Another strange thing is that the CCP has been drafting the “plea deal” of the Ministry of Justice and Meng Wanzhou’s lawyer. Meng dared to demand “release without condition, publicly apologize and compensation for the psychological and material loss.” Otherwise, “I rather sit in prisons of the U.S. and Canada for life!” It seems she could only shout like that toward Biden.
On the contrary, Wang Yi said, “the destiny and well-being of Chinese and US people and even the people all over the world bear on maintaining the healthy and stable development of the two countries’ relations. It is up to the US to make a correct decision on the future of China-US relations, and it is also subject to concerted efforts of the two countries.” During the video conference on Dec. 7, Wang assured U.S. executives that Beijing remained committed to the Phase 1 trade deal with the U.S. Phase 2 negotiations will be led by Vice Premier Liu He. It did not sound like something he would say to his “old friend” Biden, but more like a declaration to Trump that he wishes to continue developing the pre-pandemic, pre-election China-U.S. relations, which indicated Xi has no idea whether Trump or Biden would win, so what he said and prepares to do are different.
