答案是tounderstand。英文有些句子，其主詞（subject）其實是動詞的受詞（object），例如：（1）Heisdifficulttoplease（要他高興很不容易）。（2）Thesightwasterribletosee（那情景怵目驚心）。（3）Thebeefwasnotsafetoeat（吃這牛肉並不安全）。這些句子不用被動語態（passivevoice）。
上述句式，「to＋原形動詞（infinitive）」之前要用形容詞，而那形容詞一般是指難易、好壞或安危，例如easy、difficult、hard、impossible；great、good、nice、pleasant、lovely、terrible、horrible、awful、dreadful；safe、dangerous等。當然，字的用法約定俗成，很難有毫無例外的法則。比如你可以說Thatgoalisimpossibletoachieve（那目標沒有可能實現），possible卻不可用這句式，只能說Itispossible/impossibletoachievethatgoal。
