Chinese author says Japan’s invasion helped form new China
Japan’s invasion of China was indispensable to the establishment of the new China, Chinese contemporary author Wang Pu said on her Facebook page.
The statement appears to take aim at Hong Kong officials, who recently scrapped a university entrance exam question about whether Japan during the early 20th century did “more good than harm” to China. The city’s education authorities described the question as “leading” and biased”.
“Communists have this song about how ‘without the Communist Party, there would be no new China’. To me, it should have been changed to ‘without Japanese invision there would be no new China’,” she said. She added that the occupation allowed the Communist Party to gather strength before it toppled the Kuomintang ruling party and established Communist China in 1949.
