Letter to Jimmy|I walked past you and I cheered you on
While being remanded in custody, reading the Apple Daily is something I most look forward to every day. Reading the paper enables me to follow closely what is happening in Hong Kong so that I will not be detached from the outside world. I want to thank you and everyone else at Apple Daily for staying fearless in the face of totalitarian suppression, bravely safeguarding the truth, and defending press freedom in Hong Kong.
The other day I passed by you in the visiting room. It hurt me when I heard some inmates who don’t understand you verbally abuse you. Alas, under the watchful eyes of many Correctional Services staff members, I didn’t get to talk to you. The few steps that separated us felt like an invisible wall. I could only fix my eyes on your back and cheer you on quietly.
The weather has got much colder. Please take care of yourself. It is tough to be in prison, but there are always many people inside and outside the wall who support you, stand by you, and look forward to the day when we can breathe the air of freedom together. Add oil!
A brother inside the wall
