The National Immigration Administration (NIA) recently announced that it will continue to temporarily suspend the entry of foreigners holding valid visas or residence permits, as well as to suspend the visa policy at border control points and the policy of visa-free access to regional areas. The Chinese authorities would adopt a strict assessment and approval process for travel permits requested by mainland China residents to discourage and restrict any non-essential trips for reasons including tourism, visiting family and friends. At present, 46 land border crossings have been closed.
This decision contradicts Xi Jinping’s repeated emphasis that “The door of China’s opening-up will only open wider and wider.” The intention, of course, is not just to prevent the spread of the epidemic, nor is it just to prevent the loss of foreign exchange. This is a step that the CCP is taking towards a complete lockdown under the rapid increase in internal and external pressure.
China’s door is not continuing to open, let alone opening wider and wider. Instead, it is closing at a speed that the Chinese cannot predict.
After the state of affairs with the U.S. and other western countries took a steep downturn, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is fully aware that the situation is irreversible. Western countries have not only eliminated the infiltration of the CCP, but they are also strategizing to contain China. Moreover, they will take steps to encourage the Chinese people’s demands for reform to push for the disintegration of the CCP in an attempt to completely eliminate the threat of communism to the free world.
Based on this basic judgment, the CCP originally intended to adjust its national policy, shifting to a dual circulation strategy to cut its dependence on overseas markets. Later on, it discovered that dual circulation alone was not sustainable, so it had to go back to the old way of complementing the domestic market with the global markets. Economically, it hopes to maintain food and shelter for 1.4 billion people, while politically, it strengthens public opinion control and maintains stability. This two-pronged approach to maintain social stability has barely brought this society lurking with various crises out of the deep water. This is why Xi Jinping has repeatedly stressed the importance of security in his speeches. It is precisely because he feels insecure that safety is a priority.
The CCP has never given up on the path of socialist public ownership and has been messing with the idea for decades, driving the national economy and people’s livelihood to the brink of collapse. Reform and opening up took advantage of the capitalist market economy to rescue the proletarian dictatorship that is in danger. However, when the market has revitalized, and foreign trade is booming, and wealth is accumulating, the CCP returned to the old way of “advancement of the country and retreat of the people,” and intended to use “socialism with Chinese characteristics” to build a “community of common destiny for mankind.”
The original intention of the CCP was to use Singapore as a model to build an enlightened and authoritarian state where the communist party will be in power for years to come, and the interests of rich and powerful families can endure. If the people are well-fed and clothed, even without political rights and freedom, the 1.4 billion people would love the party and the country. As long as the one-party dictatorship is maintained, political power can be preserved.
Originally a British colony, Singapore is a small country with few inhabitants, rich in Western cultural traditions. Blending the essence of Chinese and Western cultures, Lee Kuan Yew’s decades of hard work and dedication have laid the foundation for the rule of law in Singapore. Officials are well paid and uncorrupted, the government took care of the basic needs of the people, and the people developed a tame character. Singapore enjoys an advantageous geographical location with the proximity to an abundance of local products in its neighboring regions. Together with the leadership of a competent government, the country is full of vitality, practices fair trade, promotes mutual understanding with other countries, and is able to keep up with the latest trends in technology.
All these are incomparable with the legacy of China’s thousand-year feudal rule. Since the CCP came to power, political struggles have destroyed moral and ethical values, while reform and opening-up have released the greed of the government. The CCP’s political culture has combined the evils of the past and present from the best of all worlds, resulting in the total deterioration of social life. The CCP has been brainwashing its people to empty their minds for a long time, and ruling with violence to create red terror. This impoverished land cannot nurture the same enlightened autocracy of Singapore. In this world of blood and rain, only deformed, filthy and evil flowers can bloom.
On the other hand, in the east of China, the Kim dynasty, a three-generation lineage of North Korea, has maintained family rule for 70 to 80 years. Its government severed diplomatic relations with the outside world while suppressing domestically, and the people were displaced by years of famine. The government was also committed to developing nuclear bombs, and using inhumane tortures to eliminate dissidents. This reactionary and dark rule has in fact lasted for 70 to 80 years, and this has made the CCP rulers very envious.
After its ambitions for expansion were defeated, the CCP was forced to retreat inwards. The more insecure the authoritarian rule, the greater the efforts to maintain stability. With social crises on the rise, violent suppression is commonplace. There is no solution to the economic problems and the people’s resistance is frequent. The only way out is to follow the path of North Korea’s oligarchy, which is the reason for the tight customs control. By using high-tech methods to control the people, and even more barbaric ways to suppress resistance, the all-around aggravated rule has turned China into a magnified North Korea.
This is the CCP’s long-term strategy to deal with the adverse internal and external situation and to maintain the interests of rich and powerful families. It is also the underlying reason for the suppression of Hong Kong by means of the National Security Law. From here onwards, China’s national situation will only get worse.
