Letter to Jimmy|I’d much rather that you were slightly more selfish

蘋果日報 2020/12/19 10:16

Dear Fatty Lai,
Although you must have been recently numerous words of blessing and gratitude these days, I still want to reiterate once more: Thank you for speaking out for democracy, freedom of speech, and Hong Kong, as well as to personally walk the talk. Thank you for not giving up on Hong Kong, not giving up on Apple Daily. Thank you for your persistence despite suppression and persecution from all fronts. Thank you for your fearlessness and intrepidity. You have shown me that Hong Kong is still very beautiful, but sometimes, I would rather that you were slightly more selfish. Seeing you in shackles, stepping out of the meat wagon, I was so heartbroken. I am worried that you will be treated inhumanely in the detention center, that you will not be warm enough. I am worried that you will not eat well. I am most worried that you will be extradited to the mainland. I am afraid for you and worried about you every single day. I follow Apple Daily news closely to get the updates on your detainment You are already a successful businessman. Now should be a time for you to enjoy your life, play with your grandchildren, and travel the world. Yet you have chosen to love Hong Kong, to stay behind, and face the darkest of times together with a group of Hongkongers who are unable to flee. As such, how can we not love you, not support you and Apple Daily? Please, take very good care of yourself.
