Letter to Jimmy | Your serenity sets a good example for Hongkongers
The reader referenced the photo of Jimmy Lai in handcuffs and with a chain around his waist captioned with a verse from the Gospel of John as encouragement.
I have been reading “Apple Daily” since I was in secondary school, and it was Apple’s reports that taught me to care about Hong Kong. Thank you for your hard work. When other media chose to self-censor and take sides due to pressure or interest, Apple Daily insisted on telling the truth, shining light in a dark world, and defending the value of journalism.
It was very hard to see you handcuffed and escorted to the prison van. But your serenity has set a good example for us Hong Kong people. Even in the face of external oppression and shackles, you can still maintain your inner peace. This freedom is something that cannot be taken away by any persecution or violence.
In Isaiah 41:13, “For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear, I will help you.” No matter what, have faith in the merciful Lord who will be with you in every situation. Looking forward to the day of your freedom! Praying for you!
