Next Digital founder Jimmy Lai will continue to go live this Thursday (Sep. 17) on Twitter to discuss Hong Kong’s political situation and future with netizens, but note that the time will return to 9 a.m.
Last week, Lai was joined by guest host Mark Clifford, former editor-in-chief of South China Morning Post, and together with Benedict Rogers, co-founder and deputy chairman of the Conservative Party’s human rights commission and founder of Hong Kong Watch, a U.K. based civil organization, discussed the relationship between the United Kingdom and Hong Kong, including the new British National (Overseas) Passport (BNO) naturalization path and the related moral responsibilities. Lai believes that Hongkongers' culture has similarities to that of the British in terms of languages, life, and values; and in addition, Hong Kong has professional talents that can replace the United Kingdom’s loss of those from Brexit. In the latter half of the live chat, netizen Sonia called in to speak with Lai about views on the Hong Kong National Security Law.
At 9 a.m. on Thursday HKT (9 p.m. Wednesday EST), Lai will go live again with Clifford continuing on as the guest host, and will be joined this time by American writer-cum-journalist Claudia Rosett, whose reports and analyses of the Hong Kong situation has been published on the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and PJ Media. She has also participated in works of the Independent Women’s Forum and the London Centre for Policy Research. After an initial discussion, Lai will take questions from netizens and continue face-to-face interactions on Zoom.
