【Second Opinion】China Plays the Race Card in Australia (Mark Simon)

Each day the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) preaches Xi Jinping's Chinese century is upon us, resistance is futile, and democracies should stand aside as the Chinese model of governing takes over the world. At the same time Chinese apologists claim China is misunderstood or a victim of Western plots when the CCP is challenged at home or abroad. The conspiracy minded see this as a strategy. It's not, it's the insecurity of tyrants.
The only message from Beijing we need pay attention too is the first, the rise of China under Xi. The CCP is doing us the courtesy of telling us China is an expansionist power, we are expected to submit, and Chinese abroad are expected do the motherlands bidding. Yet this bully's bluster is not matched by the reactions of the CCP when anyone challenges it's incursions into the domestic politics of other nations.
The first major push back against the CCP's United Front is underway in Australia. As expected the CCP response to being challenged is panic, and with that a rush to the gutter with cries of anti-Chinese racism.
Taking their cue from China Daily, Chinese media in Australia are claiming racial oppression in response to the government of Prime Minister Turnbull finally calling the CCP on the carpet for interference in Australian domestic politics and a campaign to alter Australian foreign policy.
China was caught out, in large part due to Australian politics being an open table for foreign money. The public became aware of the CCP buying influence, outrage swelled, and Prime Minister Turnbull reacted. End of story.
Except the CCP played the race card. Yelling racism was meant to not just deflect attention from United Front activity, but more importantly to divide Chinese-Australians from their nation by placing all people of Chinese heritage on the hook for CCP intrigue.
Make no mistake, the logic of breaking Chinese immigrants from their new home nations' works for the CCP. A wealthy, well educated, and disloyal segment of society is a valuable tool for Beijing's mischief abroad. However for Chinese seeking a new life it's a nightmare of living under suspicion and possible threat if relations between a nation and China heat up.
The CCP has no problem with throwing an overseas Chinese community under the bus. Calling Australians racists isn't designed to help Chinese-Australians, it's designed to protect the CCP.
Australia's Chinese community are about to learn what Hong Kong people and Taiwanese already know. With the CCP everyone is disposable, especially Chinese.
