Next Digital founder Jimmy Lai will continue to go live this Thursday (Sep. 10) on Twitter to discuss Hong Kong’s political situation and future with netizens, but note that the time has been moved to 4 p.m. HKT (9 a.m. U.K. time).
Last week, Lai was joined by guest host Mark Clifford, former editor-in-chief of South China Morning Post, and Raymond Burghardt, former chairman of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), to discuss the impact of Taiwan’s elevated international status. Lai believes that support from the United States gives Taiwanese confidence. In the future, Taiwan must look to the world to seek trading partners. In the latter half of the live chat, Leo, a Los Angeles resident, called in to speak with Lai. The two shared their deep feelings for Hong Kong, and trust that Hong Kong will get international support.
At 4 p.m. on Thursday HKT (9 a.m. U.K. time), Lai will go live again with Clifford continuing on as the guest host, and will be joined by Benedict Rogers, co-founder and deputy chairman of the Conservative Party’s human rights commission and founder of Hong Kong Watch, a U.K. based civil organization. Rogers has continued to pay attention to the situation in Hong Kong. During last year’s anti-ELAB movement, he went on a hunger strike in support of Hong Kong, and has repeatedly voiced condemnation towards the excessive brutality of the Hong Kong police, and supports for Hongkongers in their fight for democracy.
After an initial discussion, Lai will take questions from netizens and continue face-to-face interactions on Zoom.
