Demand a return to the polls through Sunday noise, says Cardinal Zen

Hong Kong Catholic Cardinal Joseph Zen has urged Hongkongers to make some noise on Sunday at noon, to express their demands to return to the polls.
The Sept. 6 Legislative Council election was postponed by the government on July 31 due to COVID-19 concerns, with incumbent lawmakers to stay on for another year. However, almost 70% of the respondents in a new survey conducted by the Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute said they wished to restart the election as soon as possible.
Zen said in a blog post that although Hongkongers were unable to protest on the streets, they could still speak out. He urged the public to make noise on Sunday by using their windows, doors, cars, loudspeakers, drums, hands, and plates, or playing sounds and music.
“It is anger out of desperation, and also a tragic demand,” he said. “The brothers and sisters in the whole world have been making this demand for us over the past few days.”
Zen said Hongkongers should buy the Apple Daily newspaper and send it to Chief Executive Carrie Lam so that she could read the results of the survey. He said with the public’s support for an election to go ahead, the public opinion survey launched by pan-democrats over whether to stay or leave the Legislative Council has now become a secondary issue.
