‘Not interested’ in emigrating to US: Pro-Beijing lawmaker Eunice Yung shoots down rumor
Hong Kong lawmaker Eunice Yung has rejected rumors of emigration to the United States, after a content creator on YouTube alleged that she was planning to leave the city.
Yung, a member of the pro-Beijing New People’s Party, said on Saturday that she “had not applied for emigration to the U.S.” and had no interest in doing so. She said she had no idea how the rumor started.
“Thank you to netizens for thinking so highly of me,” Yung wrote sarcastically on Facebook.
The rumor was started by a Hong Kong YouTuber, who also urged the public to sign a petition asking the U.S. government to stop Yung from setting foot on American soil.
Yung told Apple Daily that she is planning to take an exam to qualify as a lawyer in the Greater Bay Area — China’s development plan for the Pearl River Delta made up of Hong Kong, Macao and nine mainland Chinese cities — and that she was busy revising during the holidays.
During an appearance on RTHK’s Viewpoint 31 program in November, Yung said that she was interested in developing her career in the Greater Bay Area.
