Praise on Xi’s primary school visit for ‘going where he belongs’
Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to a local primary school during his Thursday trip to Hunan province has earned “praise” from internet users for being “the strongest primary school pupil on earth.”
Xi, accompanied by Vice Premier of the State Council Liu He, was seen having a fruitful exchange with a group of primary four pupils at the first elementary school of Wenming Yao nationality township in Rucheng county, Chenzhou city, People’s Daily reported.
Pupils attending the ideology and politics class were depicted as being thrilled by the presence of “Grandpa Xi,” giving him a warm welcome, according to photos published by state media Xinhua.
Xi wore a delighted smile as he stood against a black board written with the words “Telling stories of the Long March, be a new man of the era.” He praised pupils for sharing their favorite Long March stories and called them “little sprouts” of the Chinese race, expressing high hopes for their future as the “architects and torch bearers of socialism.”
“The red genes live in all of you. The ideals of revolution must be passed on from one generation to another. The great revival of the Chinese race will be realized in the hands of today’s youth,” Xi said.
He made special mention of a famous Long March story that took place in Shazhou village in Chenzhou. The story revolved around three female fighters from the Red Army who insisted on cutting a quilt in half to thank a villager for taking them in for a few nights in November 1934.
Users on Twitter commented on Xi’s school visit. “He has gone to where he belongs, that’s why he looks so happy,” one user wrote. Another wrote that the leader had great communication with the pupils. Others said the students sitting there looked like statues and had lost their simplicity.
