The one who truly promotes world peace | Jimmy Lai
U.S. President Trump does not play according to the rules, and is often ridiculed by the pro-establishment elites of being layman, surly, and even crazy. However, before the outbreak of the Wuhan virus, he achieved the lowest unemployment rate in the United States in decades, the best economic growth since President Reagan, and reversed the United States' dependence on importuned energy to become an energy exporter. In addition, he launched the Sino-U.S. trade war in an attempt to stop the CCP from forcibly transferring or even stealing technology through trade violations. This move was a warning to the free world to start facing up to the consequences of unfair trade with China, or else the problem will threaten world peace. If the Western camp could act in unison, the CCP will be forced to face the reality that if it does not play by international rules, it could be marginalized. This shows how President Trump has made positive contributions to the long-term stability and peace of the world. These results came from not acting according to traditional wisdom, and proved how blind the pro-establishment elites are and how pedantic the so-called traditional wisdom is.
President Trump’s strategy of promoting peace in the Middle East was mocked by foreign policy experts as naïve and ignorant. They had the consensus that the dispute between Israel and Palestine must be resolved before there can be peace in the Middle East. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres even said recently that this would be the key to bringing peace in the Middle East. Trump, however, went the opposite direction. Putting aside the deadlock between Israel and Palestine, he dissolved the nuclear weapons treaty between the United States and Iran, imposed unprecedented economic sanctions on Iran, sank its economy, weakened its threat to the other Arab countries, and executed the evil mastermind, Qasem Soleimani, of Iran’s terrorist activities, and demonstrated the determination to fight Iran to gain the trust of the Sunni Islamic countries headed by Saudi Arabia.
President Trump’s Middle East peace strategy focuses on the feeling of helplessness that stemmed from Iran’s military threat to Arab countries. The support for Israel is a check and balance for Iran. Without the need to rely on the energy supply in the Middle East, the United States indicated the withdrawal of troops from the Middle East as a means to push Arab countries to join forces with Israel to fight against Iran. Saudi Arabia is the source of money in Palestine. When Israel and Saudi Arabia are on the same front, Palestine has no choice but to reconcile with Israel.
Last Tuesday, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain signed the Abraham Accord at the White House, marking a historic step for peace in the Middle East, opening the door for countries such as Oman, Morocco, Kuwait, Sudan, and especially Saudi Arabia to join forces against Iran, and that will be the completion of peace in the Middle East. For half a century, the situation in the Middle East has left all U.S. presidents' hands tied. Before Obama took office, his bluff of bringing peace to the Middle East won him the Nobel Prize. Trump’s unconventional move created peace, how is he not the prize winner?
President Trump created peace in the Middle East, allowing Arab countries to do business with Israel; oil money from oil-producing countries can be invested in Israel, and Israel’s talent technology can help Arab countries develop their economies. The economic prosperity brought about by “peace dividends” will not only benefit countries sanctioned by the United States, for example, Iran and Syria, but also reduce the economic and military influence of China, Russia, and even Turkey in the entire region. The turbulent situation in the Middle East has given these countries an advantage; the more turbulent the situation is, the better for them. When there are peace and stability in the Middle East, there is no room for China, Russia, and Turkey to take advantage militarily, and the world has a better chance of moving towards peace. President Trump, the messenger of peace, has made extraordinary achievements that should grant him this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. After winning the presidential election in November, it is hoped that Trump will take another step and win the Nobel Peace Prize in December.
In less than 50 days, the result of the U.S. presidential election will be revealed. Polls show that Trump’s poll falls behind that of Biden’s. I, however, have no doubt about Trump’s re-election. Yes, the Wuhan virus has caused the death of more than 200,000 Americans, topping the world’s number. The economy has been hit hard, companies have closed down, unemployment has surged, and money has been lost. All of these are blows to President Trump’s polls. The leftist mainstream media has been latching onto Trump and attacking him for not being effective in the fight against the epidemic.
Yet the people are not blind. They know that the factors surround the epidemic are extremely complicated. For example, the American people are free and unruly, and unwilling to wear masks, which does not help the epidemic at all. In addition, local governments such as that of New York have mishandled the epidemic situation in nursing homes, a blame that is hard to pass off. Voters will not put the blame all on Trump. On the contrary, the brilliant economic growth he achieved prior to the Wuhan virus, the lowest unemployment rate of blacks and minorities in history, the highest increase in wages, as well as his tough stance against the CCP on its unequal and illegal trade practices are obvious to all, and people have confidence that he will revive the economy swiftly after the epidemic, a plus to his chances of winning a second term.
On the other hand, his opponent, Joe Biden, is old and frail. If he is not halfway speechless, he is full of clichés. Even more detrimental is that he is led around by the extreme leftists in the Democratic Party; with political views that tip heavily to the left, it feels like he wants to bring about a socio-economic revolution to the United States. Yes, many Americans are dissatisfied with the current situation, yet what they want is gradual improvement rather than revolutionary transformation. Biden’s “political correctness” and near-socialist propositions scared the hardcore members of the Democratic Party, which contrarily does not look pretty for his election.
George Floyd, the black man who was killed by the police kneeling on his neck, was used by the Democrats to twist the meaning behind Black Lives Matter to demand cuts in police budgets. Some states and cities under the control of the Democratic Party responded, leading to an escalation of crimes and murders; Bad people hijacked the protests to burn cars, ransacked shops, and even shot and killed police officers, leaving people to live in panic. These will inevitably hurt the Democratic Party’s election. Troubled by these incidents and happenings, coupled with the weak position of Biden, it is difficult for President Trump to lose, therefore this is fortunate for him.
When President Trump is re-elected, the United States will be able to escape the fate of socialism, therefore this is fortunate for the American people as well. I even think that President Trump’s re-election is good for world peace, therefore it is equally fortunate for the people of the free world.
