Top Chinese diplomat calls “Wolf Warrior” label a misunderstanding
Naming China’s diplomacy as “wolf warrior” was a tactic employed by foreign countries that aimed to prevent China from defending itself, according to vice foreign minister Le Yucheng.
In a speech given at a think tank conference on Saturday, Le claimed “wolf warrior diplomacy” was a misunderstanding towards China, as it had always been a country whose people highly-valued etiquette and made harmony a priority.
“Wolf warrior diplomacy” is a term coined to describe China’s more aggressive style of diplomacy in recent years, named after a Chinese action film “Wolf Warrior 2.”Le quoted Chinese President Xi Jinping as having once said: “Be beaten if you are backward, be hungry if you are poor, be scolded if you have aphasia.” Le said China had solved the first two issues, and it was time to tackle the third.
Hostile foreign forces had aggressively attacked China since the beginning of the year, forcing blaming and brutally interfering in its internal affairs, according to Le. Those anti-China parties had targeted innocent enterprises and viciously criticized the Chinese Communist Party and China’s political system, he said.
It was impossible for China to remain silent and the country would instead engage in the battle to safeguard its national interests and dignity, Le said. China’s diplomacy has always been vigorous and there was no place for weakness or fawning to foreign power, he said.
