It is imperative for an international city and financial center like Hong Kong to have a media which keeps our government in check, exposes social injustice and enhances democracy.Reporters have been verbally insulted, physically harassed and press freedom has deteriorated to a record low since the protest in June.
Hong Kong has fallen seven places in the latest World Press Freedom Index to 80th, a new low ever since.
Former Chief Secretary Anson Chan, who devoted her life to Hong Kong, was so disappointed to find Hong Kong’s press freedom deteriorating.
“We all witnessed how the frontline journalists were treated and suppressed last year in the anti-extradition protest,” Mrs Chan expressed with heartfelt pain.
