Letter to Jimmy|Not hard-hearted enough to ditch you and Hong Kong, I gave up the idea of emigration
Remanded on bail for only 7 days, Jimmy Lai was once again deprived of the freedom of family gathering at the eleventh hour before the end of 2020. “Heartbroken Hong Konger” sent in a letter saying he/she had used to be keen on emigrating before he saw Jimmy Lai tormented time and again by totalitarianism. “Calling to mind your persistence in dedicating yourself to Hong Kong at your age, now I am really not hard-hearted enough to ditch you and Hong Kong.” He/She aspires to keep on fighting with Lai until a victory is gained one day.
Another letter to Jimmy bylined by “Hongkonger” says he had used to chat with his/her friends and relatives at his/her leisure why Lai didn’t leave Hong Kong early on; later, he/she understood that he could’ve gone if he had wanted to, so he stayed for a reason. “Your very intrepidity and admirable spirit are so touching.” “Hongkonger” tells Lai to feel relieved and be patient for God knows what one is doing. “Everyone has ups and downs. God is fair. I know you read the Bible. I hope it would bring you peace of mind.” He/She ends the letter with a Cantonese pop song named “The Bright Future” sung by late singer Roman Tam as a gift for Lai: “We know there is a silver lining on the horizon tomorrow morning; as long as we help, encourage and support one another, we are hopeful about the future and can consider ourselves to be unbeatable even in the remotest place on earth. Take care.”
