Gree Electric’s Dong Mingzhu tops list of China’s most influential businesswomen
Dong Mingzhu of Gree Electric was named China’s most influential businesswoman by the local edition of Fortune magazine.
Fortune China said Gree was hit hard by COVID-19 during the first half of 2020, but that did not affect the status of Dong, the company’s chairperson and president. When the pandemic forced Gree’s 30,000 brick-and-mortar stores to close, Dong personally hosted livestreams to promote products and even managed to sell US$175 million worth of goods during a four-hour session in September.
Great Wall Motor CEO Wang Fengying ranked second on the list while Yum China CEO Joey Wat came in third.
The magazine also established a list of Chinese businesswomen to watch, with Gebi Liang, Microsoft’s general manager of SharePoint and Teams, taking the top spot. London School of Economics professor Jin Keyu and InMobi’s Jessie Yang ranked second and third, respectively.
The list also featured Chinese social media influencers, such as Xiaohongshu founder Miranda Qu (ranked seventh), Taobao livestream celebrity Viya (ranked eighth) and blogger Li Ziqi (ranked 22nd).
