Pathetic Political Sacrificial Pawn (Lau Sai Leung)

The U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo scolded China unexpectedly for taking advantage of the situation to undermine the United States. In his recent article "On the Chinese Communist Party's Obscene Propaganda", he furiously pointed out China's “callous" attempt to exploit George Floyd's death, in an attempt to justify their authoritarian methods of depriving citizen rights. He said that China again shows its "true colors". He wrote in the article that such propaganda is obscene and laughable. "As with dictatorships throughout history, no lie is too obscene, so long as it serves the Party's lust for power. This laughable propaganda should not fool anyone."

Despicable, Laughable Acts of Bowing to the CCP

Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam, along with the Chinese Communist Party, also exploited George Floyd's death. "I can only describe them as having double standards, judging China's security and Hong Kong's situation with prejudice, while highly valuing their own safety”, “I believe the crowd has their own judgement when they compare the treatments U.S. protesters, and the attitudes they show for the riots in Hong Kong". A clown that gloats others misfortune, it is hard for international journalists to consider Hong Kong as still operating under “One Country, Two systems.” Foreign policies are not just about power, but also about image, figure of speech and ideology. China and Carrie Lam's exploitation of US police brutality is a form of fallacy called "Tu quoque". Famous Chinese writer Lu Xun criticized this kind of behavior in his work "So Does The Foreign" written in 1933. In the story, Lu sarcastically mocked the Chinese back then, saying that whenever they were criticized, they would use "so does the foreign" to cover up their mistakes. A famous quote from the story was “Whatever China has, so does the foreign country. Foreigners say China has lots of bugs, but so do they.”

In order to please Beijing, the HKSAR government led by Carrie Lam made bold statements regarding the National Security Law. The audacity they have, makes them as "obscene" and "laughable" as the Chinese Communist Party. Unprecedented police brutality and justice that cannot be served have caused extreme conflict in the society. Chris Tang, the current Commissioner of Police still dared to say "My heart is torn. Who turned Hong Kong's kind, peaceful teens into demons filled with hatred?” How laughable.

Matthew Cheung, the Chief Secretary for Administration said, recently students started a petition in opposition to the National Security Law. He considers this as a clear exploit of students for their political agenda, and Cheung claimed that education institutes are not a place for political opinions. He then rallies for the society to prevent politics from seeping into the campus. Little did he know, the ones who brought politics into the campus, is indeed the government. Cancelling a question in a public examination just because it does not fit with the communist political agenda. How laughable.

As for that Secretary for Justice, when questioned on a radio show regarding the difference between Hong Kong and P.R.C. law, and how will the National Security Law be implemented in Hong Kong, she said that the basic principles such as presumption of innocence, the prosecutor's burden of proof and the proofing has to reach the point of beyond reasonable doubt are identical, and citizens should not overly differentiate the two sets of laws, when in fact the focal point is, does the Chinese Communist Party has a different understanding about revolution and subversion of state power. Is this laughable, pathetic, or disgraceful?

Political puppets who discarded their conscience for the mere sake of their career, I can guarantee you they will become sacrificial pawns that will be thrown away when the next administration comes. After all, who in the next ring in power would want the notoriety of this current government?
