A Taiwanese man who jumped off a cliff after being stopped by officers has been found after 40 days.
The 37-year-old man from Hsinchu was stopped by control officers after he drove his motorcycle into a closed section of the Central Cross-Island Highway on Nov. 6. He accelerated and hit two officers before running away and eventually jumping off a 100-meter cliff.
The man only had NT$200 (US$7.10) on him when he left home, according to his family, who reported him missing after he did not return home that night.
A hunter found the man in an abandoned tunnel on Tuesday night. He appeared weak but had no obvious wounds, according to the rescue team.
The man drank only water and lost 20 kilograms during the time he was missing, Apple Daily Taiwan reported. He wolfed down the chicken leg rice his family gave him at the hospital, the report added.
Taiwanese police are investigating the incident, which has drawn widespread public attention.
