In1462theforcesoftheOttomanSultanMehmedⅡwereapproachingthecapitaloftheirenemy,VladDracul,whentheyencounteredasceneofhorror.StretchingformorethanamilewerethousandsofsharpenedstakesonwhichwereimpaledthebodiesofTurkishprisoners,whohadbeenlefttodiethere.Thebodieswereinvariousstagesofdecomposition,andthestenchwasindescribable.AstheTurksmovedcloser,cloudsofravensandotherbirdsofpreyroseupfromthecorpsestheyhadbeenpecking.SoappallingwasthesightthateventheferociousMehmedwasshakenandcalledofftheinvasion.

一四六二年，土耳其蘇丹王穆罕默德二世率軍進犯對手弗拉德．德古的首都，路上看到恐怖的一幕：幾千條削尖的長樁綿延一英里以上，樁上都插着土耳其俘虜的屍體。那些俘虜是被插在樁上慢慢死去的，屍體已先後腐爛，惡臭莫名。烏鴉和其他猛禽正啄食腐屍，見土耳其大軍走近，紛紛飛起，蔽日遮天，場面之恐怖，連兇悍的穆罕默德都膽寒心駭，下令回師。
【解說】拙欄說過吸血鬼Dracula的名字來自Dracul，原因看本文就應明白。李白《戰城南》「烏鳶啄人腸，銜飛上掛枯樹枝」的情景，也沒有Dracul所為那樣恐怖。
