紐約老牌獨立書店 The Strand 絕境求救：捱過大蕭條、兩次大戰 可能撐不過武漢肺炎

不單紐約客鍾愛，更是各地真偽文青、愛書人到訪紐約必到的獨立書店 Strand Bookstore 表示，武漢肺炎疫情打擊下，書店經營出現危機，有可能捱不過這關，呼籲廣大客戶支持。
1927 年成立，有 93 年歷史的 Strand Bookstore，以龐大的二手書藏量及稀有書籍而聞名，曾以「18 英里的書」（18 Miles of Books）作招徠。東主 Nancy Bass-Wyden 於美國時間 24 日發出絕境求救新聞稿，指書店 93 年來經歷大大小小危機，包括大蕭條、兩次世界大戰、以至連鎖書店、電子書及網上銷售巨人亞馬遜（Amazon）等打擊，現在卻可能撐不過武漢肺炎帶來的經營危機。
坐落在著名的紐約第四大道上，曾經有多達 48 家書店，現在只剩下一家 Strand Bookstore。Nancy Bass-Wyden 表示，在武漢肺炎下，Strand 可能已走到末路：「來店的客人大幅減少，幾乎完全沒有遊客及零推廣活動，我們將不能繼續下去。」書店營業額比 2019 年下跌近七成，雖然美國政府的貸款及現金儲備令書店捱過疫情的首 8 個月，但「現在已經來到業務不能再持續下去的轉折點」。

Nancy Bass-Wyden 的絕境求救得到網民熱烈回應，Twitter 上出現 #savethestrand （救救 TheStrand）標籤。美國楝篤笑藝人 Patton Oswalt 發帖以示支持：「我今日要在@strandbookstore 網上購物，希望你也會，救救 TheStrand。」
