He showed that the government was lying, breaking the law, and violating the Constitution. It’s debatable whether mass surveillance is an effective method of counterterrorism. But his point is not that it is or it isn’t; it’s that we have a democracy, with a government of, by, and for the people. Whether you think he’s right or he’s wrong, he’s certainly got a lot of balls.
