強烈磁暴襲地球 英美澳紐現極光

本來只見於地球兩極的極光，近日出現於芬蘭、澳紐、美國等地，社交網站上遍佈各地網民拍下的瑰麗奇景。
《衞報》報道，周日有兩股猛烈太陽風（能量以帶電荷粒子形式高速傳送）衝向地球，最終合流並於周二扺達，使地球磁場急速變形，形成地磁暴。根據美國國家海洋及大氣管理局的分級，地磁暴強度分為五級，今次達四級，屬「嚴重」（severe），是2013年秋天以來最強勁的太陽風。
北半球的英國北部、愛爾蘭、德國，以及美國北部州分華盛頓、俄勒岡、明尼蘇達，與南半球的紐西蘭南島及澳洲珀斯等地，均可觀賞到北極光。
