Dear Alumni
Greetings! I hope this message finds you well. I write to update you that I have informed the Council of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) about my planned retirement, effective 1 January 2019. I will have completed my second 5-year term by then.
Time flies. I could still vividly remember my first day at PolyU and yet it has been almost nine years. The opportunity to serve PolyU and Hong Kong is both a challenge and an honour. Allow me to assess the progress and the impact PolyU has made in the past years. They are admirable. The new level of academic and research vigor has resulted in enhanced recognition and reputation, and more importantly, our new model of education has sent forth graduates who are not only successful professionals, but also socially responsible citizens. Moreover, we succeeded in securing a piece of much-needed land in Ho Man Tin which is next to the main campus to cater for our expansion. We all can take pride in what PolyU has achieved in the past nine years or so. PolyU is well-positioned for a demanding and exciting future!
It has been an extraordinary privilege to serve as President of this great institution for ten years, and it is now time to look forward to the next phase of development under a new leader for even greater success.
No words can adequately describe how grateful I am for the unfailing support you have so generously rendered me. I do look forward to having your continued support in the remaining 15 months of my tenure as President. From the bottom of my heart, I once again thank you all!
Sincerely
Timothy W. Tong
President
