I asked Hong Kong’s top leader what she thinks about critics calling her a “habitual liar” and that she would need to cry to be believed by society. (She did last week but many called them crocodile tears.) She told me she didn’t agree with that characterization.

This much is 100% clear: Carrie Lam is unable to say the word “retract.” Whether by choice or by Beijing directive. If she did retract all #extraditionbill proposals she might regain some of society’s trust - but would lose Beijing’s and her job. Rock and a hard place. @CBSNews
